Dr. Joseph Walters in his clinic

“Your story is where good care begins.”

Meet your physician

Joseph J. Walters, M.D. · Family Medicine · Saratoga, CA

His path to medicine was unusual, and it shapes how he practices. Before medicine, he trained at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and worked as an actor in New York for several years. He then earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature, with a minor in Latin Studies, from Columbia University. He says the lesson carried over: good care starts with hearing a person’s whole story.

Dr. Walters earned his medical degree from Albany Medical College in 1993. He completed his residency in family medicine at Albany Medical Center and then practiced at an Albany Medical College clinic before moving to California.

Dr. Walters opened his Saratoga practice in the spring of 1999 and has practiced there ever since. With more than 30 years in medicine, he is the doctor patients from young children to seniors keep coming back to for the same reason: a physician who knows them, listens, and explains things clearly.

Dr. Walters works with a hospital care team at Good Samaritan Hospital, and is resuming inpatient work at Good Samaritan. When a patient needs more than an office visit, he understands what comes next and can coordinate it.
